Obviously, the laptops with the higher technical specs and those with the AniMe Matrix on them will cost you more than a unit with lower hardware specs and no LEDs on the lid, HAHAHA.
ROG Zephyrus G14 2022 – Packaging & Features
It is always such a joy to unbox an ROG unit because it is a unique experience by itself. The packaging will always have that extra “oomph” that continually builds the excitement the more that you unveil what’s inside the box.
The ROG Zephyrus G14 2022 is no exception to the brand’s over-the-top packaging. However, it has some similarities to the packaging of the 2020 version, which I personally own.
When you remove the outer cardboard box, you’ll get to the inner box (BOXCEPTION! LOL!) that houses the laptop! Pulling up the lid of the inner box props up the Zephyrus G14 2022 so it is beautifully displayed in front of you.
If you like details on your packaging, you’ll definitely enjoy unboxing this unit because there are intricate designs in the outer portion of the box as well as the under the lid! XD
ROG kind of makes it easy for owners of this laptop to be on-the-go the minute they complete their purchase. If you like bundled items, the ROG Zephyrus G14 2022 already comes with a laptop sleeve, ROG Impact mouse, and two types of AC adapters so users have a choice on what they want to bring. 🙂
Beautifully Updated Frame & Chassis
There’s a lot of things that wowed me when I got to test out the ROG Zephyrus G14 2022 but the one thing that really stood out was its upgraded frame and chassis. Being able to compare the 2020 unit to the 2022 one, I was able to see a lot of improvements in the most recent version!
I really liked how the lower half of the laptop finally matched the whiteness of the lid in the Moonlight White colorway! I felt that it made the design more cohesive. The ROG logo on the lid of the laptop is now also prismatic in color, and it really stands out when the lid is down.
The backlit chiclet keyboard has been upgraded with 1-Zone RGB, and the trackpad is 50% larger than the 2020 version! This is great for people like me who need all the space even if I have short stubby fingers, LOL.
The 2022 version of the ROG Zephyrus G14 also has the new 180-degree ErgoLift design on its hinge. As someone who has issues with their eyesight and needs better viewing angles when working in different spaces, this is really a great quality-of-life improvement!
And of course, I can’t forget that they have finally added an internal webcam to the 2022 version! One of my biggest peeves with my personal 2020 Zephyrus G14 was how it had no built-in webcam. I was using the laptop to work from home, and it was annoying to always use an external one during on-cam meetings. LOL!
I think my only gripe with the whole experience with the Zephyrus G14 2022 version is it comes with Windows 11 already built in. I’m not used to the OS yet, so it took some time to adjust to how it worked, especially since there is a completely new UI. But I’m sure it’s easy to adapt when you’re carrying around such a pretty and powerful laptop, HAHAHAHA. XD
Incredible Upgrades For Powerful Gaming Performance
When it comes to performance, I have no complaints whatsoever about the ROG Zephryus G14 2022. How can I complain when a 14-inch laptop is equipped with the latest AMD Radeon CPU and GPU of its time?!
However, I did test its gaming capacity out as much as I could while I had it. I used Monster Hunter World: Iceborne and the early access of My Time at Sandrock to see the stats and temps of the laptop as a whole.
Obviously, CPU and RAM usage of the laptop wouldn’t be so high when you’re in the loading screen of Iceborne, but it’s nice to note that the frame rate goes up to almost 120 FPS in this instance.
However, when you do get into the meat of the hunt, especially when you’re hunting fast monsters like Barioth, there’s an understandable increase of temperature, RAM and CPU usage, as well as a drop in frame rate.
There are ways to tweak the performance of this laptop, especially on how to lower your temps and save your poor battery’s life, HAHA! But those things are for people with more experience with tech stuff, so I just wanted to show you how it performs out of the box.
I am also happy to report that the known heating issues of the ROG Zephyrus G14 series have been improved. The lower part of the frame does not heat up as bad as the older models. And the keyboard part does not pose the danger burning your fingers while gaming, HAHAHA.
However, I still wouldn’t recommend for you to play triple-A titles with this on your lap as its temperatures can go up to uncomfortable levels in other parts of the chassis. Remember, game responsibly, LOL! XD
ROG Zephyrus G14 2020 Vs. 2021 Version Comparison
When you put the ROG Zephryus G14 2022 and 2020 editions beside each other, the differences are incredibly noticeable. This is especially true in how the all-white frame of the 2022 version is more vibrant compared to the 2020’s silver-grey chassis.
The 2020 unit also has a slightly wider frame, while the 2022 one has a taller one. This is to make space for the internal webcam as well as the QHD+16:10 ratio Nebula Display. The Nebula Display is beautiful, too, and you can tell the difference in color and contrast compared to the 2020 version’s screen. Oh, and the trackpad is noticeably larger on the 2022 model versus the 2020 one!
From viewing the laptops’ lids, you can actually see the difference in dimensions between the 2022 and 2020 models as well as the color scheme of the ROG logo.
The AniMe Matrix of the ROG Zephyrus G14 2022 version also has more dots than the 2020 one. This is because the number of mini-LEDs have been increased to 1,449, allowing it to produce more vibrant and detailed images on the lid!
As someone who is already head-over-heels in love with the 2020 version of the G14, I can say that I would probably want to upgrade to the 2022 version in a couple of years.
Not only did it perform well with such powerful specs, but it also had a lot of improvements compared to the G14 model. Given inflation and the changes made to the ROG Zephyrus G14 2022, especially with the patented Nebula Display, the increase in price tag versus the 2020 version is really not that bad.
So, what do you think? Would you want to upgrade to the ROG Zephyrus G14 2022 edition as well? You can know more about the laptop on the official ROG website! 🙂
