Introduced to the Philippines back in 2013, the World Class program has seen many interesting creations from our fellow Filipinos, one of which is the quite interesting Taho Cocktail – an opulent yet unique mix of sago pearls, soy milk, hazelnut liqueur, and a shot of one of the world’s finest vodkas.
The event was held in Whitespace Manila last February 9, 2016, where some of the brightest bartenders in the country showed off their cocktail crafts. Some of them, including Kenneth Bandivas, Yoma Rivera and AK Roxas, are past winners of the Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year Competition.
“Guests bore witness to the unfolding of what is expected to be an exciting year for the country’s new roster of bartenders from the country’s finest bartending establishments, who will be stepping up to the plate to compete for a chance to represent the country at this year’s Global Final Competition in Miami, Florida.
These bartenders were formally presented that evening, namely: Aldrin Ivan Ancheta from The Curator, Clayton Paul Munar from Buddha Bar, Ian Osillo from The Exit, Sean Carlo de Vera from Mandalay, Lester Jones Egurrola Ligon from ABV, Kenneth Lloyd Misagal from ABV, James Ortiz from Raffles Long Bar, Byron Damatan Mayo from Las Flores, Michael Tubiera from Rambla, Jason Hussien Ali from Niner Ichi Nana, Christopher Antonio from M Café, Ichiro Nagasawa from Sage, Shangri-la Makati, Christopher Bayon from Revel, Alvin Delos Reyes from Hooch, Cedric Petrasanta Cello from Smith Butcher and Grill Room, Guillermo Natividad III from Solaire Resort and Casino, Jesus Emmanuel Salvador Saludo from Solaire Resort and Casino, Reymart Nolasco Dela Cruz from City of Dreams, Nino Jayson Cruz from City of Dreams, Mark Quilaton from Sofitel, Mike Ople from Desiderata Lounge.”
“In the next few months, these bartenders will be competing in a series of qualifying heats and finals to determine which among these 21 representatives will be going on to compete in the Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year Finals in Miami, Florida, where the world’s best bartenders will pit their skills, impeccable techniques, and knowledge against each other in front of the cognoscenti of the global bartending industry.”
Special guest Bulleit Ambassador Tim Etherington-Judge was also flown in by Diageo Reserve to help mentor and conduct workshops during the launch event.
I am clearly not one to shy away from cocktails or creative concoctions that involve alcoholic beverages. LOL. But it’s always nice to know that Filipinos are making their mark at an international level. I wish our contestants good luck and I hope they enjoy the awesome Miami atmosphere while they’re out there! 🙂
