In a press conference held last month, the Philippine Collegiate Championship (PCC) shared its plans and details on how it aims to achieve its goal of revolutionizing the academic landscape in esports and gaming for students across the nation.
Organized by the Collegiate Center for Esports (CCE), the upcoming season of the Philippine Collegiate Championship promises to be a nationwide spectacle, featuring a diverse array of schools competing in two major tournaments. The Regional Cup, an online tournament, invites students to represent their institutions in each major region: NCR, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, while the National League will showcase the top four teams from each region with the last team standing earning the prestigious title of the country’s best esports collegiate team. PCC will feature popular mobile games such as Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Call of Duty Mobile for the tournaments, with registrations for MLBB starting on May 31 on the PCC Facebook page.
Stanley Lao, Chief Executive Officer of the Collegiate Center for Esports, has stated: “Our mission is to expand the horizons of our students within the esports scene. As the next generation of esports athletes and professionals, we are committed to providing them with the essential tools and knowledge to excel, so they may forge ahead in the ever-growing industry.”
In addition to the tournaments, the Philippine Collegiate Championship will host the Campus Roadshow, designed to offer students an immersive experience in the esports and gaming industry. Highlights of the roadshow include the Esports Masterclass, which aims to give inspiration and knowledge to students through industry leaders, and insights into the different fields from both the frontend and backend of esports. The roadshow will also feature community tournaments, meet-and-greets, and a plethora of engaging activities.
The Regional Cup is slated to commence in June, followed by the National League in August. The Campus Roadshow will begin its tour around the country later this year.
