Basketball is big in the Philippines. … Sorry, I think that’s an understatement. It’s HUGE! It’s really a big deal because we have so many tournaments and competitions nationwide and we boast of the 2nd oldest basketball league in the WORLD (the PBA, btw).
It’s really a personal thing too because I’ve been exposed to the sport from a very young age. Almost all of the males in the family play the game and I even chose it as a subject in my university P.E. classes, LOL. But enough about me, let’s talk about a possible ground-breaker in the world of sports gaming – NBA2K ONLINE!!!!
My younger brother is a big fan of the series. He plays basketball outside too but I guess you can never underestimate the love of the game, HAHA! I’m sure that it’s exciting to create your own fantasy draft teams and see them in action, and only the NBA 2K series can do just that for every hardcore baller fan out there.
“We’ve been waiting for the next big online game to arrive and this is it,” X-Play Online Games general manager Ronald Aquino shared. He is eager to see how the NBA2K Online game could possibly change the landscape of online gaming in the Philippines.
NBA2K Online is an action-sports online game that combines the best of what the award-winning NBA 2K basketball video game series has to offer with immersive gameplay, rich player customization, and massive online community. The Intellectual Property (IP) is owned by 2K, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., and is co-developed by Visual Concepts China and Tencent.
The 3v3 Streetball mode might be the biggest hit among NBA2K Online gamers who are into PVP action and could be the main mode of competition for the first NBA2K Online tournament in the future. NBA2K Online product manager Bryan Dy said, “The game mode will appeal to players who want to play quick and successive matches until they satisfy their gaming cravings.”
Exciting and challenging game modes await players in NBA2K Online. The two most prominent game modes are My Career and 3v3 Streetball. In My Career mode, players need to train and guide their character up the NBA ranks. The experience includes being drafted by an NBA team, going up against other legendary NBA teams, and playing for awards and championships. In 3v3 Streetball mode, players form groups of three to go up against other teams in a fast and furious street match. The matches are set in many different urban basketball court settings.
The NBA experience is further enhanced through special in-game items that are available in the Item Mall. Shot packs enable players to equip their characters with various animations – jump shot, layup, and dunk – based off NBA players. There are also official NBA team jerseys and items available.
In addition, gamers also have the opportunity to play as NBA players through the Player Card system. Similar to trading cards, players can obtain Player Cards by completing achievements or buying them through the Item Mall.
