I’ve had some experience with the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P when it was launched earlier this year. And I remember bemoaning the fact that it didn’t seem like the white version was going to arrive in the Philippines any time soon.
But it’s here (!!!), and I have had it for a couple of weeks. So, here’s my review and overall experience with this beautiful pocket camera.
DJI Osmo Pocket 4P Shines in Pearl White

I’m not gonna lie, the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P in Pearl White has everything the OG black model has. It has the same specs, same features, and, of course, video and photo quality. EXCEPT it comes in this gorgeous white, pearlescent finish as opposed to the deep tones of its black counterpart.
To be honest, I understand the brand’s swerve from the matte finish on the Pocket 4 (which I own) to this pearlescent one. White is such a finicky color, plus gadgets with a matte white finish tend to pick up dirt fast and struggle to remove them. And I’m also happy to report that the Pearl White Osmo Pocket 4P has remained spotless in the few weeks that I’ve had it.

Like I mentioned above, beyond the different skin of the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P in Pearl White, it retains the dual camera set up with a 1-inch CMOS, 20mm-equivalent wide-angle lens and 1/1.28 CMSO 60mm-equivalent med-tele lens.
The rotatable 2-inch OLED touchscreen has up to 1000 nits of peak brightness, and there are two physical buttons that can only be accessed when the screen is rotated.

One is programmable and can be customized depending on your needs, while the other allows you to use the zoom options without having to touch the touchscreen.
You do get the same placement of the joystick and power / record buttons as with previous generations. But I feel they operate more smoothly than the Pocket 3 or 4. And, even with the dual cameras, and the slightly heavier build, the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P feels compact and pocketable at just 230 grams.
Video Quality is its Core Strength

Given that the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P has two cameras, a 17-stop dynamic range, the capacity to shoot in the new 10-bit D-Log2, and has up to 12x digital zoom, there is so much flexibility when it comes to shooting videos and photos.
But taking videos is its core strength, of course. It has 3-Axis Stabilization for smoother movement during fast-paced shots, Active Tracking 8.0 for better subject recognition and following, and can now shoot slow motion in 4K/240fps.
I’ve just started getting into color grading and knowing that there are these many options to change the vibe of your footage makes me feel like the sky’s the limit, haha!
The zoom is also pretty impressive, even with the dip in quality when you use the 12x digital zoom. You do notice the little shift in the footage, but the distance you can cover is still amazing. o.O
Even though the Pocket 4P has Low-Light Mode and slow motion in 4K/240fps, I didn’t really feel the need to use them in my day-to-day workflow.
But I do plan to explore these features more, and, hopefully, update this review once I have enough to talk about and show you. 🙂
Dynamic Features for Good Photos

Whether I’m shooting product beauty shots, everyday scenery, or cute candids with the pets, there was a lot of ease of use in taking photos with this camera.
Now I’m not gonna tell you I know anything about shutter speed, aperture, and etc., because I don’t. But you can say that as a noob, I had an easy time fiddling around with this camera to take nice, dynamic photos. Well, at least, nice, in my opinion. LOL.
Low-light situations gave that nice “street” effect, close-ups felt more alive with the detailed sharpness, and, even with the slight dip in quality, the 12x digital zoom continues to impress.
It felt like I could take good photos no matter where I was. And I’ve proven this with the footage I’ve taken both indoors and outdoors, in natural and artificial light, and in dark lighting during events.
So even if you say that the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P was specifically made for videos, it does hella well in giving non-professional creators such good tools and features to make great content.
Notable Quality of Life Features and Experience

Probably one of my favorite features about the DJI Osmo Pocket 4P is the interchangeable lens filter. I particularly like that it comes already attached to the camera, so you don’t have to worry about losing the filter like you could with the Pocket 3 or 4.
This gives you more options about how your footage will look, because you can easily switch out to a more wide-angle lens, black mist filters, and etc.

The camera comes with 103GB of internal storage, has a 1545 mAh battery life (which is the same as the Pocket 4), and can connect to your phone via the DJI Mimo app. It’s also compatible with most DJI microphones, so you don’t have to purchase a new one if you decide to upgrade to this camera.
I did notice a few issues with the battery life, since the 3-Axis gimbal system and dual camera do take up more juice, it’s expected that the battery runs out faster. This happens to me during long days at events, but this is something a handy power bank can easily fix. Plus, it has fast-charging, so you can juice up the camera quickly with a compatible 30-65w charger.
The temperature of the camera can also get pretty high, especially during long hours of shooting. So, it’s best to give yourself, and the camera, a break every so often to avoid overheating. 🙂
DJI Osmo Pocket 4P in Pearl White – Price and Availability

Overall, I am very much in love with this camera. Not only does it look beautiful, but it also feels beautiful to hold. Plus, the features and options definitely make it a solid pocketable camera for solo content creators like me.
