If you haven’t noticed already, I’ve been following S-Game Studio’s Phantom Blade Zero since I first got to play it at TGS 2024. Now, the game has gone gold and is releasing at the end of October 2026.
Here’s everything that’s recently been announced and revealed about the game!
Phantom Blade Zero Pre-orders Are Now Open
I’m a bit late to the news, but pre-orders for Phantom Blade Zero opened on August 11, 2026. It’ll be available for the PlayStation 5 and PC on Steam and Epic Games.
Two editions of the game are available – Standard and Deluxe. There are pre-order bonuses available, with the Deluxe edition having additional character skins and digital artbook and OST as bonuses.
Donnie Yen Revealed as Creative Consultant
One of the biggest recent announcements is how S-Game Studio has gotten the help of famous Hong Kong actor and martial arts legend Donnie Yen to optimize the game’s combat and action design.
The actor also served as the facial and motion capture model for one of Phantom Blade Zero’s characters, Mó Yuan.
I’ve played the game latest demo during Tokyo Game Show 2025, and it was a far cry from the build in 2024. The kung fu action was much more fluid, and everything seemed to move way too fast, just like in those martial arts movies that I watched as a kid.
If this is the result of Donnie Yen’s participation as Creative Consultant, I can’t wait to see the final iteration of the game!
Deep Dive into Phantom Blade Zero World and Gameplay
In the recent State of Play, Phantom Blade Zero released a deep dive video into the world and gameplay of the game.
The devs revealed more of Soul’s story, his unique condition of only having sixty-six days to live, and the martial arts underworld of Wulin.
Phantom Blade Zero will have eight intricately designed maps that interconnect to create the game’s world. Exploration is non-linear but not completely open world, so players have freedom to discover secrets, side bosses, valuable items, tough bosses, and more.
Combat is wuxia and martial arts centered, with players getting an arsenal of 30 primary and 25 secondary weapons. These weapons can be upgraded to get more unique forms and techiques.
There is a skill system, which alongside the weapon system, can be upgraded and reset depending on the “build” a player wants to use. There will be three difficulty options available at launch, with an unlockable “66 Days” difficulty that gives players that exact time frame to complete the game.
Phantom Blade Zero’s entire world and theming is based on “Kung Fu Punk,” a cross between wuxia, kung fu visuals and steampunk elements in-game.
We only have 2.5 months left until its official release date of October 29, 2026. Hopefully time flies by and we can all experience the Kung Fu Punk world of Phantom Blade Zero. 🙂 You can check out the official site to know more.
