It’s been a few weeks since I was able to get a hands-on experience with the Lenovo Legion Go 2. It’s powerful and has one of the more, if not the most, unique form factors in the handheld landscape.
But what was it like gaming on it? Let me tell you my experience! 🙂
The Lenovo Legion Go 2 Carries You Through Triple-A Gaming
If you ask me, the Lenovo Legion Go 2 has one of the most premium specs to carry you through a lot of the triple-A titles of today. It comes equipped with the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, 32 GB of RAM, and 1TB SSD.
With some adjustments, I was able to play games like Diablo IV and Monster Hunter Wilds at stable 40-45 FPS. I can imagine you can get even more if you really fine-tune your settings to make the most of the specs.
So lighter games like Tales of Seikyu and Moonlighter 2 didn’t really feel like it gave this handheld much of a challenge in performance. 🙂
Plus, the massive 8.8″ OLED touchscreen is incredible to look at. Whether you’re watching vibrant cutscenes or playing through fast-paced battles, playing on an OLED screen is very, very different from an IPS panel.
I honestly don’t know if I want to go back to regular IPS handheld gaming after this, HAHAHA.
Unique Form Factor Caters to All Gamers
In my opinion, one of the Lenovo Legion Go 2’s best-selling points is how it offers multiple ways to play your games. There’s nothing wrong with going the traditional route and using it as a handheld, but the device does more than that.
The detachable controllers and dedicated FPS sensor make it easy to play shooter games on the Legion Go 2. The kickstand takes the weight off of your hands, allowing you to treat the device as a console.
Plus, with Windows as its operating system and the multiple USB-C slots, you can easily hook it up to a monitor and productivity peripherals to make use of it as a desktop alternative.
The best part is that doing all of this is relatively easy, and you don’t need to think too hard about the best way to play whatever game of you choosing. 🙂
No Denying its Weight and Size
I have to address the elephant in the room and talk about the weight and size of the Lenovo Legion Go 2. And yes, there’s no denying that it is one BIG baddie.
At around 920 grams, its weight is not a joke. Plus, the 8.8″ screen does nothing to lessen its overall bulk and size. We always like to say that bigger is better, but in a gaming handheld that is supposed to be portable – just how big is too big?
In my experience, the Lenovo Legion Go 2’s biggest downfall is the sheer heft and size of it. As a girlie with weak wrists and small hands, it was hard to keep the device lifted for long periods of time. I often used its kickstand to keep the device up, just so I don’t abuse my poor wrists, LOL.
Lenovo Legion Go 2 Final Thoughts and Gaming Experience
Even though this is the 2nd iteration of the Lenovo Legion Go (I tried the first one a couple of years back), I feel like my opinion hasn’t changed since then.
Gaming on this handheld isn’t a question about performance because you know it will deliver. Lenovo made sure that it gives you a strong, immersive gaming experience with its specs, OLED screen, and multiple game modes, no matter what kind of game you want to play.
BUT. Now, it’s a question of, is it easy to bring along as a portable gaming device? Which is basically the essence of a gaming handheld, right?
Unfortunately, for me, its size and weight make it a challenge to bring around. It feels like it’s meant for docked gaming or for gamers who have a lot of extra cash and don’t mind just how large it is!
And with an SRP of Php 111,000 and above, or around $1,900 USD to $2,000 USD, it’s definitely not one for those who are on a budget. 🙁
