Although the recent State of Play Japan was relatively short, there were a couple of news pieces that I found interesting. So, let’s talk about my top picks and favorites! 🙂
PlayStation 5th Anniversary Devices
I think the highlight of the State of Play Japan show was when they announced that PlayStation would be releasing several devices to celebrate the console’s fifth anniversary. I’m talking about the PlayStation 27″ gaming monitor, Pulse Elevate speakers, and the Japan-only digital console.
I can definitely see massive PlayStation fans purchasing these peripherals, if not for use, then for collector’s purposes. XD
Inkonbini: One Store. Many Stories – State of Play Trailer
I think one of the few game trailers that really caught my eye during the showcase was Inkonbini: One Store. Many Stories. You play as a convenience store clerk in a small Japanese town.
It’s meant to be a calm, meditative game, which feels like something everyone needs. HAHA. Release is expected by April 2026. You can watch the trailer here:
Wandering Sword
Wuxia-themed Chinese RPG Wandering Sword will be making its way into the PlayStation 5! It’s been out on other platforms since 2023, but I think it’ll be the first time it comes to the console.
I like that you can switch between an action or tactical turn-based battle system! Anyway, all DLCs will be included when players purchase the game on May 28, 2026. 🙂
State of Play Japan DLC & Game Updates
Two New Paid DLCs for Once Upon A KATAMARI
Bandai Namco has announced that two new paid DLCs will be coming for Once Upon A KATAMARI – Katamari Damacy Series Dance Dance Remixes and Katamari Damacy Series Neo Remixes.
Each DLC will have five new remix tracks and ten accessories. Those who own the game will also get special accessories each time a DLC is released. They’re expected to be launched in November 2026.
Monster Hunter Wilds Free Title Update 4
Though it was just a snippet, Capcom reminded hunters that the 4th free title update for Monster Hunter Wilds will arrive this December 2025. Hunters can finally face off against the Elder Dragon Gogmazios, who was first introduced in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
TBH, I’m not sure my PTSD can handle fighting this monster off again, but we’ll see. HAHAHAHA. XD
Octopath Traveler 0 Demo Out Now
Octopath Traveler 0 just launched its playable demo right as State of Play aired. According to Square Enix, the demo allows up to three hours of gameplay, and gamers can choose which protagonist to play as.
Progress and saved data will be carried over to the full game when it releases on December 4, 2025.
Elden Ring Nightreign’s Forsaken Hollows DLC
For all you Soulsborne fans, FromSoftware Inc. announced that a DLC is coming for Elden Ring Nightreign, its standalone multiplayer co-op action survival game.
The “Forsaken Hollows” DLC introduces two new third day bosses, new field bosses, a new Shifting Earth – a special condition where the map sees massive geographical changes, and new points of interest in Limveld for players to explore. Two new Nightfarers are joining the fray as well, with new abilities to take on the Night’s Tide.
