CD PROJEKT RED has released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered, and anyone who already owns the game can upgrade without paying a second time.
The Witcher 3 Remastered is Available Now as Free Upgrade
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered upgrade is live on PC through Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store and Battle.net, as well as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2. Expansions also come with the upgrade, even if you only ever owned the base game.
Fair warning, skill points have been reset. So, if you have an old save, don’t be confused. This is because the skill system has been rebuilt from the ground up.
What to Expect from the Remastered Upgrade
Here are some upgrades that you can expect from the Remastered version:
- Visuals: Native DirectX 12 rendering with multithreading, textures and models updated from The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project, a new shading model, ray-traced local shadows and reworked foliage lighting.
- PC and PS5 Pro: Path tracing on PC, while PS5 Pro leans on PSSR to hold 60fps with ray tracing on and up to 90fps with VRR in performance mode.
- Combat and Movement: Polished monster behavior, new finishers, a dynamic combat camera, plus reworked vaulting, ladder climbing and ledge movement.
- Skill Tree: rebuilt around three ranks per skill and prerequisite unlocks instead of spent points.
- Gear: Reforging changes how equipment looks without touching its stats.
- User Interface: Grouped loot windows, a loot feed, item tooltips, and a Photo Mode that lets you choose the characters.
It lands ahead of the 2027 expansion, Songs of the Past. If you have been putting off a second run through Velen, this is the version to do it in. You can find out more through the official website.
