Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Hands-On: The Foldable Mobile Experience

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Feature OMGluie

I had the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 for a couple of weeks. And when it landed in my hands, I found myself constantly reaching for it a lot more than my personal smartphone. Let me tell you my experience!

Small Enough to Bring Everywhere

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Specs Features

The first thing that won me over is how petite this foldable is. Closed, the Galaxy Z Fold8 gives you a 5.5-inch cover screen that’s comfortable to use with one hand.

The whole device weighs only 201 grams and is just 9.7mm when folded, so it fits in smaller bags and doesn’t feel like a bother in my pocket.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Inner Screen Size

Open it up and you get a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.

This unique shape is what makes it feel closer to a small tablet than a stretched-out phone, but being able to move between the two is what makes it handy enough to bring everywhere.

One Device, So Many Ways to Use It

The flexibility of the form factor is the second thing I enjoyed the most. Reading, watching, or playing games with its different modes just made everything feel like it flowed seamlessly together.

Quick browsing happens on the cover screen, and the moment I need to reply to emails or chats, I unfold and work on the bigger canvas.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Viewing Modes

Tent mode has become my default for streams and video calls, and splitting the inner screen into separate windows makes multi-tasking a lot easier.

But I have to tell you the truth, there is no Flex Mode here. There’s no option to work on the smartphone when it’s partially folded, and that’s something to seriously consider.

Gaming on Both Screens

Gaming is where the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor does the heavy lifting. You can start a game on the cover screen, unfold, and keep playing on the main display. And yes, running two games at once is possible. LOL.

Though I wasn’t able to spend that much time with my typical mobile games like Diablo Immortal, it was nice seeing it run smoothly on both the front and inner screens.

Folding and unfolding mid-game feels very seamless as well, so you can play casually or go a little more hardcore depending on how you’re holding the device.

Heat-wise, it never got hot enough to burn my fingers, though some warmth is expected with highly visual games. I didn’t notice too much drain from the 4,800mAh battery either, but to be fair, my sessions weren’t that long.

Rear-Camera Selfies and Solo Content Creation

Last but not least, the 50MP wide and 50MP ultra-wide rear cameras can double as your selfie and video cameras, with the cover screen acting as your viewfinder.

The best part is that you won’t need other accessories to frame yourself properly, and no guessing whether you’re actually in the shot.

A MagSafe case and a compatible tripod still make it better, but solo content creation with just this device is completely possible!

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 – Final Thoughts

I’ve never experienced using a foldable as a daily driver before, and it was so fun using the Galaxy Z Fold8!

The petite size is perfect for portability, you can game on both the inner and outer screen so there’s so much flexibility, and the rear-camera selfie function is definitely a good feature for solo content creators like me.

The caveat here is that it’s not a budget-friendly smartphone. The Galaxy Z Fold8 comes in at Php 151,990 (16GB+1TB), Php 123,990 (12GB+512GB), and Php 109,990 (12GB+256GB). Definitely not for those on a budget!

But if you want an incredibly dynamic phone that can easily go from casual scrolling to serious work and play, you will have so much fun with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8. 🙂
