OMGluie Movie Review: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

I’m just gonna get this out of the way before I start this movie review (rave, really) of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! JUST AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I CANNOT GET OVER THIS MOVIE. OMGGGGGGG.

Now that that’s over and done with, let me try and take a step back to cohesively put together my thoughts on the latest movie to come out of the ever-popular, institutional rock of sci-fi movies, Star Wars.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story takes place right before the beginning of the first-ever movie from the franchise, A New Hope. We follow the thrilling adventures of Jyn Erso and a mismatched troop of unlikely fighters as they make their way through the galaxies far, far, away to put an end to the tyrannical rule of the Galactic Empire. They attempt to fight for the Rebel Alliance by planning to steal the plans of the Death Star.

I’m not gonna do a “what I loved/what I didn’t love” for this movie review because I mostly loved this film. I loved every single minute of it. The story, the galactic skirmishes, and SPOILER ALERT – all the freakin cameos!!!

It had a good amount of drama (like I cried several times throughout the entire film), dry (droid) humor, combined with well-inserted action scenes that had me covering my heart and my eyes for the most part of the experience.

Rogue One is an astounding film. Spectacular and fun, really. It was a visual treat, no doubt, but it held in it the hope of each Star Wars fan in the theater. Like the franchise had been reborn. Like they unleashed powerful sparkly glitter glue that is slowly, magically, stitching things together so that it all makes sense. Good, effin emotional, sense. UGH.

I actually enjoyed this far more than The Force Awakens. Maybe because I felt like Rogue One married the two trilogies together in a seemingly flawless manner that TFA pales in comparison. You will feel more for these rebels than you ever will for Rey and her own band of fighters. But that’s my own opinion, don’t let me make you think otherwise.

Plus the cameos. Just. Ugh. I cannot even. Just. All my feels, yo.

Modern computer graphic technology, an unforgettable franchise that encompasses an audience throughout generations, combined with hecka talented actors, impeccable screenplay story-telling and movie direction makes for my no. 1 pick of a film this 2016. (Yes, over Moana, over Fantastic Beasts, over Dr. Strange.)

There are just a few nit-picky things that ticked off the inner fan in me (like the changes in certain things I can’t say just so I don’t spoil it all for you) but overall, I’m still very much a fan of this movie.

If you’re a Star Wars fan, 100% hands-down, you HAVE TO SEE THIS. And if you aren’t, I swear, just catch up, it’s worth a shot. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is out in theaters this December 15, 2016. A great cap for the year!

Also, thank you to Globe Telecom for the midnight screening tickets. I promised I would never do one again but this was just hard to miss and so completely, utterly, worth it.
